Festivals Around The World - Christmas

Meals:

By the Christmas traditions of the Serbs, this festive meal is copious and diverse in foods, although it is prepared in accordance with the rules of fasting. Besides a round, unleavened loaf of bread and salt, which are necessary, this meal may comprise egg, roast fish, cooked beans, sauerkrauts, noodles with ground walnuts, honey, and wine.In Colombia a tipical meal is natilla and buñuelo.

History:

For many centuries, Christian writers accepted that Christmas was the actual date on which Jesus was born. However, in the early eighteenth century, scholars began proposing alternative explanations. Isaac Newton argued that the date of Christmas was selected to correspond with the winter solstice, which in ancient times was marked on December 25.

In 1743,German Protestan Paul Ernesto Jablonski argued Christmas was placed on December 25 to correspond with the Roman solar holiday Dies Natalis Invicti and was therefore a “paganization” that debased the true church. In 1889,Louis Duchesne suggested that the date of Christmas was calculated as nine months after the Annunciation (March 25),the traditional date of the Incarnation.

A Historical Event Of Christmas Was (Christmas Truce):

During World War I in 1914 and 1915 an unofficial Christmas truce took place. The truce began on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1914, when German troops began decorating the area around their trenches in the region of Ypres, Belgium, for Christmas. They began by placing candles on trees, then continued the celebration by singing Christmas carols, most notably Stille Nacht (Silent Night). The British troops in the trenches across from them responded by singing English carols. The two sides shouted Christmas greetings to each other. Soon thereafter, there were calls for visits across the "No man's land" where small gifts were exchanged. The truce also allowed a breathing spell where recently-fallen soldiers could be brought back behind their lines by burial parties. Funerals took place as soldiers from both sides mourned the dead together and paid their respects. At one funeral in No Man's Land, soldiers from both sides gathered and read a passage from Psalm 23. The truce occurred in spite of opposition at higher levels of the military command. Earlier in the autumn, a call by Pope Benedict XV.

For an official truce between the warring governments had been ignored.

Decorations:

In christmas the usually decorations were: trees , lights , God and where god was born. Also the lights are used in the trees , houses , aparments , and other decorations but the ones that I mencioned were the most important.

Christmas Clothes:

In the age of early Christianity, a Christmas garment was associated with that of St. Nicholas. With gradual evolution, the connotation has undergone a radical alteration with clothing being majorly redefined by haute couture. For all fashion buffs out there and those who're not so much into it as well, here's Christmas Carnivals offering information on Christmas Clothes.
